Deep-seated, hidden emotional issues or unbalanced neurological activity are many times cited as the trigger for addictive behaviors. Your uses of drugs or alcohol may have been a protection mechanism or an attempt to normalize neural function. Fortunately, there is a new answer.

If you or a loved one are needlessly struggling with addiction, contact us and let’s discuss how the cutting edge outpatient drug and alcohol rehab program at New Pathways can get you back on track. Give us a call and together we will discover what happened, make it right and set you on a “New Pathway.”

Forty years of scientific research has demonstrated that, for any given circumstance there is an accepted normal pattern of brainwave activity. A healthy, balanced, and properly regulated nervous system will produce the appropriate brain waves at the appropriate levels and at the appropriate times for any given situation. Unfortunately, many people are born with irregular brainwave activity. We have all known them, found them to be different and simply attributed it to “that’s who they are.” Here are a few examples:

Remember the guy in class that would just stare out the window: the Day Dreamer? You know why he wasn’t engaged? His brain was generating an excessive amount of Theta Waves and low Alpha Waves. These are the brain waves generated just prior to going to sleep. He is cortically under aroused. So the guy was literally dreaming during the day!

The person with “ants in their pants”, talks fast, can’t sit still and has a difficult time focusing. This is the result of excessive Beta Wave and low Alpha/Theta Wave production. These individuals are cortically hyper aroused and find it hard to relax and imagine. Their brain is moving so fast, that they can’t remember what they were doing an hour ago.

Now let’s say these two individuals go through childhood undiagnosed and become adults. The Day Dreamer is at a social gathering and is offered cocaine for the first time. The side effects of the cocaine are reduced Theta Waves and increased Beta Waves. For the first time in his life, this person feels normal. He can think clearly and is focused. Now The Hyper Active is at the same event and is offered alcohol. After two or three drinks he’s relaxed. Beta Wave production has been reduced and Alpha/Theta Wave production has increased. He’s normal and loves it.

What Happens Next?

Fast forward 5 years. Our Day Dreamer is a full blown cocaine addict and our Hyper Active is a raging alcoholic. What began as an attempt to feel like everyone else has led them to a life of addiction. No job, no friends, no family, and no home—but they don’t care. The brain is a powerful force and, when confronted with going back to “the way it was”, will destroy the body to maintain the status quo.

Moving Forward

By encouraging someone to enter treatment, you are asking them to go back to the old life. The one where they couldn’t think, focus or relax. The request for alcohol and drug rehab can be a hard to ask of someone, but it doesn’t have to be when you have the best rehabilitation by New Pathways Recovery and Wellness.

Long-Term Recovery

At New Pathways Recovery and Wellness, we address the causes of addiction, as well as the symptoms. Studies have indicated that traditional addiction therapies, when combined with brainwave regulation therapies, dramatically increase the success rate of long term recovery.

Did you know that studies have indicated over 50% of all addicts suffer from PTSD? That is because addiction can be the result of a deep-seated emotional trauma and incredibly most individuals are not even aware of the issue. Until the underlying emotional issue is discovered and resolved, successful addiction recovery can be difficult (if not impossible.) Emotional trauma and PTSD alter brain wave regulation and require multiple unique therapies for lasting change.

Because traditional “talk therapy” only activates the left side of the brain, it is of little use when dealing with emotional trauma until the event has been uncovered. This is why individuals having suffered childhood trauma can attend counseling for years with little to no results. Emotional trauma is seated deep within the right side of the brain, in the limbic system to be precise. Only experiential somatic-based therapy and specialized equipment can access the right side of the brain and truly resolve and balance the emotional issue.

At New Pathways Recovery and Wellness, we provide two specific and comprehensive substance abuse rehabilitation programs: Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and General Outpatient (GOP). Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) runs 8 – 16 weeks and encompasses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Counseling and Individual Counseling as required. IOP provides 3 days of group classes incorporating process groups, relapse prevention, neurology of addiction, yoga, nutrition and mind/body connection. Groups are available in the evenings. General Outpatient (GOP) is available as well both mornings and evenings and is 2-3 days a week. Individual counseling is provided weekly, or more as needed.

Outpatient Treatment Programs

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist—in a safe, caring, and confidential environment—to explore their feelings, beliefs, or behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

Outpatient rehab programs allow you to continue to live at home during drug or alcohol rehabilitation. Outpatient rehab tends to cost less than residential or inpatient treatment, and it may be more suitable for those unable to take extended absences from work or personal obligations.

Day Treatment

Day treatment provides a behavioral health treatment program, outpatient care, and treatment of mental or nervous disorders or substance abuse under the supervision of physicians.

Day Treatment Services are daytime programs that provide integrated, comprehensive treatment; educational, pre-vocational or vocational, and activity services to individuals; and therapeutic services to their families.

If you have been ordered to complete a class by the court, you have the ability to change your behavior, avoid continuing offenses and fines, and possible jail time.

Assessments, DUI Prime for Life, anger management, theft, alcohol and drug education, thinking errors and expungement are some of the classes we offer at New Pathways Recovery treatment center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
